About the band​

Established in 2010, the Sipsey Valley Band is the newest band program in Tuscaloosa County.  The program consists of the following ensembles:

SVHS Concert Band - The central ensemble in the SV Bands, the Concert Band performs two concerts each year, participates in multiple Veteran's Day ceremonies, performs at the Alabama Bandmasters Association Music Performance Assessment, and provides music for the annual SVHS graduation ceremony.  Concert Band members also try out for All-State, All-County, university honor bands, and Solo & Ensemble Festival.  A major goal of the Concert Band experience is to ensure that any student wishing to try out for college band acceptance and/or a scholarship has the skills necessary to do so.

Sipsey Valley Marching Band - The most visible part of our program, the SVMB performs at all varsity football games, several middle school football games, the annual homecoming parade, and multiple marching band contests each year.  In addition to wind instruments and percussion, the SVMS is also comprised of a strong visual ensemble comprised of color guard, dance line, and majorettes.

 

SVJazz - The newest part of our program, spring 2024 saw the reintroduction of a jazz ensemble to The Valley.  The band performed at the Shelton State Jazz Festival and the spring concert.  Future goals include participating in Jazz MPA and becoming a gigging ensemble that is featured throughout the community.

Intermediate Band - Comprised of second year band students at SVMS, this group is a developmental ensemble that bridges the gap between the foundational skills taught in Beginning Band and the performance oriented schedule of high school band.  Students at this level are able to try out for All-State Band, All-County Band, university honor bands, and participate in Solo & Ensemble Festival.

Beginning Band - Comprised of first year band students at SVMS, students learn the basics of reading music and playing an instrument in this class.  Most of the time is spent working on material from a band method book, but students are able to participate in Solo & Ensemble Festival and the annual TCSS Beginning Band Bash.
